emami: Emami Rejigs Board, Gen-next Takes Charge | Kolkata News

Kolkata: The gen-next in the Agarwal-Goenka family is taking charge. FMCG major Emami restructured its board on Thursday with both the founders — R S Agarwal and R S Goenka — taking up non-executive roles. Harsh Agarwal has been elevated as the MD and vice chairman of the company and Mohan Goenka as vice chairman and wholetime director.
R S Goenka would be the non-executive chairman of the company while R S Agarwal would be the chairman emeritus of Emami. Both Harsh and Mohan were actively looking into the matters of Emami for the last couple of years. Following its board meeting held on Thursday, the city-based company has said that its founder duo has expressed their desire to step down from their current executive positions while retaining their board berth. The decision comes in the wake of board restructuring that was part of the succession planning of its FMCG business.
The Emami board also acceded to Sushil K Goenka’s desire to step down from his current position as the MD of Emami as part of the transition process and has re-appointed him as a wholetime director of the company effective from April 1.
The other group companies of Emami such as Emami Agrotech, Emami Paper Mills and its healthcare business are being looked after by Aditya Agarwal, Manish Goenka and other members of Agarwal-Goenka family.
Commenting on the announcement, both the founders said that they are happy to announce the re-designation of Mohan Goenka and Harsha V Agarwal. “Emami has been the fruit of our love and passion of creating an indigenous organisation with a difference,” they added.
Mohan Goenka, vice chairman & wholetime director-designate, and Harsha V Agarwal, vice chairman & MD–designate, said, “We wish to thank our founders and the board for reposing their faith in us to have given us the responsibility of leading and steering the company forward. We both have been guided by our founders’ vision and the strong bond of friendship that they shared.”
